Qualification: B.E/B.Tech ( Engineering Branch/ Electrical Branch/ naval Architecture Cadre)

Note: i) Candidates in their last semester or qualified their B.E/B.Tech degree are not eligible for this entry and need not to apply ii)Candidate must have 60% marks in aggregate (I to VIII seem) on passing Degree Certificate to be eligible for commission in the Indian Navy. iii) Women candidate can only apply for naval Architecture cadre.

Age limit : 19 to 24 years (i.e. born between 02 Jul 1986 to 01 Jul 1991, (both dates inclusive).

Physical Standards: a) Height & Weight: Minimum height-157cms for men and 152 cms for women with correlated weight b) Eye Sight: 6/24,6/24 correctable to 6/6 in each eye with glasses. The candidate should not be color/night blind.

Company Profile:

The 'IONS Open Essay Competition' will be conducted annually under the aegis of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium. The competition is open to all member-navies (and, subsequently, to observer-navies too, as and when incorporated) of the IONS, irrespective of rank and/or seniority, and, irrespective of whether they are civilian or uniformed members of the 'Navy' concerned. Consequent upon English, French and Arabic having been adopted as the three official languages of the IONS Initiative, the essays may be written in any of these languages. Essays will be judged in the language in which they have been submitted and separate prizes awarded to each language-specific group of entries.

The 'Conducting Authority' for the inaugural (2008) edition of the IONS Open Essay Competition is the Chief of the Naval Staff of the Republic of India. The title of the 2008 edition of the Essay Competition is "Sustaining the IONS Initiative : Practical Solutions". Essays must be received no later than Monday, the 29th of December, 2008.
