The recruitment of Asst. Commandants is conducted bi-annually.

The shortlisted candidates are called for Preliminary Selection (PSB) as per their choice centres at Mumbai, Chennai, Calcutta and Delhi
The PSB consists of Mental Ability Test as well as interview
The candidates who qualify PSB are called for Final Selection Board (FSB) at New Delhi.
The candidates who qualify PSB are required to undergo medical examination.
The candidates subject to medical fitness are selected as per merit list.
